Come and discover this romantic Ladies'castle. 6 ladies owned it for 500 years! With a feminie touch, chenonceau is the most visited private castle in France. Since the beginning of the XVIth century, several women built it, transformed it, saved it and restored it. Today, a lady still owns Chenonceau: laura Menier, heiress of the French chocolate industrials family. It became a royal residence where beautiful King henry IInd's lover/favorite Diane de Poitiers and her rival the official queen Catherine de Medicis welcomed frequently the French royal court. You can find fresh flowers bunches in each room, made by 3 florists and changed twice a week. Discover where Mary Stuart would sleep when she came to chenonceau with her 1st mother-in law Catherine de Medicis, enter in the Black bedroom where Louise the White Queen would live as a nun, in a morbid decoration. This Renaissance palace was made for leisure, royal parties. Saved from destruction during the French Revolution by another lady, it was loudly restored during the XIXth century where another lady, Marguerite Pelouze, went bankrupt because of very expensive works. Built upon a bridge crossing the Cher river, it is surrounded by Diane and Catherine's refined Renaissance gardens.
